We’ve made it to Day Two of the detox, and Ron and I are ready for our juice day! This morning, we started with a blend of fresh apple and organic watermelon juice, sipping it slowly and savouring the experience. The sweet, refreshing taste danced on our taste buds, leaving us feeling both energised and satisfied.
According to Annie Clark’s 3DCU (Three-Day Clean-Up), Day One is all about water. This phase is meant to loosen up toxins in the body. Day Two then introduces juice—but not just any juice! The best fruits for a cleansing juice are organic grapes, apples, or watermelon. These fruits are gentle on the digestive system, not overly acidic, and moderate in sugar, making them ideal for detoxing.
For seasoned detoxers, it’s essential to commit fully to the boundaries of the 3DCU. Staying busy and keeping your mind off food can help. If you’re doing the detox at home, you might catch yourself wandering toward the refrigerator out of habit—don’t worry; it’s normal! For those new to detoxing, a word of caution: Day Two may require some rest, as lingering headaches can be common. To ease into the experience, consider cutting out caffeine, sugar, processed foods, and red meat about a week before starting the 3DCU. This prep can help you avoid headaches and nausea.
The 3DCU often brings a sense of lightness and energy. While you might not notice any immediate weight loss, you’ll likely feel physically and mentally lighter. If by Day Three you haven’t had a bowel movement, start your morning with two glasses of water. For those who struggle with constipation, an Epsom salt flush may help: mix two teaspoons of food-grade Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) with a large glass of water first thing in the morning. This often helps, but if needed, repeat it the following day.
To keep hunger pangs in check, it’s okay to enjoy a warm bone broth or herbal tea. Detoxing can be tough, and sometimes you need a little extra comfort. If you’re finding it challenging, remind yourself why you started. What’s your motivation behind the detox? Having a clear reason can help keep you on track.
Ron has completed four 3DCUs with me in the six years we’ve been together, and I’m always impressed by his dedication. Many people give up by Day Two due to hunger, headaches, or cravings, but Ron’s resilience keeps him going. Ron is five months into not drinking any alcohol and says he feels great for it.
Rest assured, you won’t die by pausing your usual foods; if anything, you’ll feel better, and your body will thank you for the break. By letting your digestive system rest periodically, you’re giving yourself the chance to live cleaner and maybe even add years to your life.
